The giving season has finally arrived. And with it, is The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s 2012 Giving Journal.

While finding the perfect one for yourself is very crucial, anyone would agree that a journal should reflect the personality of an individual and the ideals he believes in.

Showcasing the brand’s commitment to socially relevant endeavors, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s 2012 Giving Journal is a celebration of a giving effort that has changed the lives of many Filipinos.

“This year, our journal focuses on celebrating our strong support and encouragement of the spirit of volunteerism,” shares Walden Chu, President of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. “It’s about celebrating the organizations we’re collaborating with and our team members who worked very hard to make all our efforts such a success. But most importantly, it’s about celebrating our customers whose continuous patronage inspires us to continue to do well and give back to people who are in need.”

A percentage of the total sales generated from the 2012 Give in to Giving campaign will be donated to the Real Life Foundation- an organization that is very passionate about providing better future to underprivileged Filipinos by giving them access to education and transforming communities through social services including life coaching.

I think this is a great investment, like American silver eagles, because you’re able to give something in return to the community.

“Last year, we were able to send eight scholars to college. This year, our hope and goal is to beat this number and give education to more scholars,” ends Chu .

Mechanics:

1. A minimum single-receipt purchase of any Original Ice Blended, Coffee-based, or Tea-based Beverage, or Frozen Swirl, qualifies you to get a stamp card. Each card consists of 18 boxes, with corresponding drink assignments. These are as follows:

a. 1 Original Ice Blended (any flavor, regular or large)

2. Each purchase of a The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf product with a corresponding box on the card entitles the bearer to a stamp.

3. Once all the 18 boxes have been stamped, the bearer can claim his The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf 2012 Giving Journal by surrendering the accomplished card to any of our stores, during which, the cashier will punch a hole in the card to prevent reuse.

4. Promo period is from November 7, 2011 to January 31, 2012.

6. Giving Journals may be claimed all throughout the promo period and until 60 days after the promo has ended.

A long time ago, when I wasn’t into food blogging and baking yet, my dressing table in the bedroom looks normal. There’s lotion, perfume, harclips, blower and cotton ~ things that a normal dressing table should have.

peanutbutter♥ and I decided to celebrate our anniversary by going to Tagaytay and having a staycation at The Lake Hotel. Because I had such a wonderful time during when I first visited bag of Beans, I thought of taking them there for dinner.

It was lunch time during my first visit, I didn’t know it would be so romantic there at night….

Cream of Broccoli {₱120}

I know Ykaie won’t be able to finish whatever she’s going to order, so I decided to order just soup and a salad. Each order of soup came with a roll and some whipped butter. Their Cream of Broccoli soup was tasty and creamy but not as delicious as….

Pumpkin Soup {₱120}

…..which is twice as creamy and tasty. Being the soup girl that I am, I could easily down two bowls of this, if you ask me.

I forgot to take note of how much the Caesar Salad is but I wouldn’t forget it’s taste. They have one of the best caesar dressings!

Pork Tocino {₱195}

Ykaie ordered her favorite pork tocino which I ate half of…. It was such a big serving for her. As usual, the pork pieces was very tender…

Grilled Porckchops ₱295

peanutbutter♥ and my FIL both ordered pork chops. My FIL preferred it with rice while peanutbutter♥ chose mashed potato as a side dish.

Grilled Blue Marlin {₱320}

MIL ordered fish. We were surprised when it was served because that piece of fish is quite large and it was thick. Well worth the ₱320- price. It was als very tasty and devoid of any unlikely fishy taste.

Blueberry Cheesecake {₱145}  & Brewed Barako Coffee {₱90}

Dessert was all I’ve been waiting for… this blueberry cheesecake paired with barako coffee made my night and made our anniversary more special.

I told myself  that I would drive all the way to Tagaytay just to buy a slice of this cheesecake once I get my driver’s license.

I love Bag of Beans not only because of this cheesecake but because of the quality of the food they serve, the homey and rustic ambience and their staff  that gives good customer service. Watch out for me, I’ll see you in a month.

Seattle’s Best Coffee Philippines kicked off 2012 holiday by unveiling its four seasonal coffees available for a limited time at its locations nationwide. The four new blends are Coffee Hazelnut, Cookies and Mint, Espresso Jelly and Caramel Apple.  Each is a unique blends of rich flavors embodying the holiday spirit.

I was able to try the new, fruity offering for the season which is Caramel Apple. It is  a blend of Espresso combined with apple syrup and white chocolate sauce, then garnished with caramel sauce, cinnamon powder and whipped cream.  It’s a seasonal indulgence worth savoring repeatedly all throughout the holidays!

The launch was called Hippie Holidays. There was a number of Hippie-inspired activities including a hippify-me booth where Ning and I picked our pretty flowery headbands to get into the spirit, giant bubble making…..

…live outdoor silk screening,live graffiti art from Deejae Paeste and Vernon Perez and live music from the soulful, Sino Si Kat. Marc Nelson hosted the event.

Figaro had been, kind of, our go to place these past few weeks when there’s no dinner at home and sis and I wants to go to a place that doesn’t have anything at all to do with fried chicken. The kids enjoyed the ride going there so they didn’t mind…plus there’s always cake.

And because of this, I started having a few favorites in this coffee shop that I didn’t go to before….

This is the one I’m talking about. No doubt this Pasta A la Carlo{₱199} is one of the best sellers. It’s the perfect balance of spicy, tangy, salty and sweet! Add a lot of grated parmesan and it’s irressistible…

We’ll always be in the mood for Red Velvet Cake, so a slice before dinner only whetted our appetites. Another that has become my favorite at Figaro is the Calamansi Shake.

Sis had the Breakfast Sampler of tapa, bangus, longganisa and rice which the kids loved. We had to make an additional order for a full plate of this Longganisa.

The kids loved the longganisa because it’s a bit sweet. I could give each of them a Shure mic and won’t stop raving about it.

Hmmmnn… I actually forgot the name of this mini-loaf. It’s sort of a like a mellowed down fruit cake that is also dense and moist.

I’m afraid I haven’t seen the last of this Figaro branch… I just don’t like parking in this place very much….

Lunch time friday found me laughing hard with mommy blogger friends and the friendly C-Lium Fiber people over at La Asya in Eton Centris. It was the day after Valentine’s Day and everybody was engrossed in the topic about “the aftermath“, Victoria Court’s groupon deal, the husbands and Christian Grey’s Red Room of Pain.

I still can’t help but smile at the thought of how the conversation went…Ms. Diane gave each of us a pack of this Coconut Oatmeal Cookies and when I took a closer looked it says on the package that it came from the echomarket. I remember seeing the Echostore right before entering the restaurant and I got curious, so I made a mental note to drop by after lunch.

ECHOstore was more like a café-slash-store. They have tables where you can sit while you dine and they sell different kinds of things. They sell bread, fresh produce, coffee beans, ice cream,home decor, gifts, fashion accessories, health and wellness, body, beauty and nutritional products, food and beverage, products that help the environment, books, music and so much more.

I just had the cookies this morning and it sort of complimented my coffee. It’s crunchy and the coconut is evident in the taste. It gives out a sort of caramelized coconut flavor which tasted more like bucayo and it was good. Knowing and seeing that it has oatmeal makes me feel like I’m having my morning oatmeal… only in a heart-shaped cookie form.

Doing a little research while having the cookie and coffee breakfast, I found out that all the products  that the ECHOstore sells are environment friendly, sustain marginalized, indigenous and creative communities, support poverty alleviation programs, are created with fair labor practices, are animal-friendly,  and express Filipino design excellence.

I cannot leave any store that sells chocolate without one in hand so I bought this ChocoLoco Chocolate Bar in Queso de Bola {flavor} for ₱105. It’s hardcore dark chocolate that is bitter sweet but has an added saltiness due to the queso de bola bits. Chocolate as dark as this one is actually good for you, right?

I also bought this locally-made Sundried Tomatoes {₱95}. I haven’t decided yet if i should put this in this pasta recipe I have in mind or a sandwich recipe I’vejust thought about in the last 24 hours.

I guess we’ll just see which recipe will this turn out.

And I will be back to try what the cafe offers…

Tuesday night got me all excited when I found out the new drink that Starbucks is launching on July 16th! It’s chewy, silky White Chocolate Pudding on your Frappuccino specifically Dark Mocha White Chocolate Pudding Frappuccino® Blended Beverage (Tall - ₱190, Grande- ₱200, Venti – ₱210) and Green Tea White Chocolate Pudding Frappuccino® Blended Beverage (Tall – ₱180, Grande- ₱190, Venti – ₱200).

I was able to try both drinks and eventhough I’m a fan of both matcha and dark mocha, I’m leaning towards the Dark Mocha White Chocolate Pudding Frappuccino® more. It is such a treat for chocolate lovers like me as it combines the deep flavor of dark chocolate and velvety smooth white chocolate pudding! It will certainly put me on my elements on a bad day.

Not to worry if you have other favorite Frappuccino® flavors because White Chocolate Pudding will also be available as an add-on to your favorite drink.

And as if I couldn’t get you more excited, the new drinks comes with new food items for you to pair it with.

Let me start with my favorite dessert of all time – cheesecake! This OUTRAGEOUS CHEESECAKE (slice-₱130, whole-₱1450) is not only filled with bits of mangoes, blueberries and strawberries, it is also topped with fruit compote combination of those three fruits and white chocolate snowflakes. With the recent celebration of our Independence Day last June, I kind of think that this looks like the Philippine flag.

I like to think that I now have a new favorite in the buttery and flaky BEEF AND MUSHROOM PIE (₱95) because that’s how I exactly like my my pastry crust to be, aside from crispy. This is filled with tender beef strips, sliced mushrooms, carrots and creamy mashed potatoes – a knock-out combination.

Like chocolate chip cookies? Then I’m sure you’re gonna love these two soft, chewy cookies with chunks of Belgian chocolate and white, fluffy roasted marshmallow cream icing sandwiched in between. This CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE SANDWICH (₱80) is good to share with a friend over coffee.

Too bad I wasn’t able to try  the GREEK CHICKEN WRAP (₱170) because it’s bursting with a lot of flavors coming from the tender chicken breast fillet, roasted fresh zucchini, tomatoes, bell pepper, sliced black olives and sour cream drizzle inside that soft, warm pita bread.

Aside from those four new items, there are also new lunch sandwiches that would make your Starbucks® experience more interesting. Let me start with SPINACH, ARTICHOKE, AND MUSHROOM ON HERBED MULTI-GRAIN BREAD (₱160), their new vegetarian sandwich that won’t make you feel like you’re missing out on meat. This tops my list on the new sandwiches!

BACON AND CHEESE ON HERBED CIABATTA BREAD (₱165) – there are crispy strips of bacon…… and six types of cheese (Gruyere, Emmenthal, Provolone, Mozzarella, Feta and Cheddar) in this sandwich!.. Oh, and a creamy pesto sauce to hold them together… definitely the ultimate comfort food.

This sandwich had me at dark ciabatta… as I have a thing for bread. The TUNA AND CHEESE ON DARK CIABATTA BREAD (₱175) is the sandwich for you if you enjoy the classic and hearty healthy tuna dill salad.

I thought it was weird that a savory sandwich is made using marble bread that has chocolate in it. I found out later that this is made with a marbled rye bread and not chocolate making this SALAMI AND CHEESE ON MARBLED RYE BREAD (₱165) truly appealing to the eyes. Just because it says Salami and Cheese makes this a simple sandwich.. it is not as this is filled with savory salami, provolone and cheddar cheese – a perfect combination.

Honestly, I’m not really fond of clubhouse sandwiches because I think it has too much bread and it drowns out the taste of the filling.But THE CLUBHOUSE (₱175) at Starbucks®s has thinly sliced country bread that really makes all those filling— which includes roasted tender moist chicken breast, and pickle relish mixed in mayo mustard dressing, juicy sliced tomato, tasty slices of honey ham, bacon and cheese slices – truly stand out.

Last but not the least is the returning favorite which used top top my list {before the new spinach, artichoke and mushroom sandwich} –ROASTED CHICKEN PESTO AND SHIITAKE MUSHROOM ON FLAT BREAD (₱165). I’m sure you’ve already tried it because the combination of roasted chicken breast, aromatic pesto mayo sauce, Shiitake mushroom , and melted Emmenthal and cheddar cheese can be too hard to resist.

{sigh}It’s finally here — the Starbucks Card!

Yes, it’s cute but what is the Starbucks Card? Launched last August 7, 2013,  the Starbucks Card is a stored value and loyalty card that offers customers rewards when making purchases  from over 210 Starbucks stores in the country.

Nope, it is not something that you buy. You can get it just by going to any Starbucks Store, asking a barista for it, and activating it with your first load of ₱300. The card can be reloaded with money up to a maximum amount of ₱10,000 – allowing customers to pay for their Starbucks favorites without having their wallet on hand.

There are two designs available, one is two coffee in mugs and the other one is two servings of tea in paper cups. Which one do you like? I got the tea cups but I heard there’ll be more designs coming, so we better stay tuned.

I like the card sleeve that it went in. It says “we see stars in your future“. Stars are the points you’ll get when you buy your favorite hand-crafted drink, whole bean, or Starbucks VIA Brew using the Starbucks Card.

You can use your Stars to redeem:

•  Any Grande handcrafted beverage for every 12 Beverage Stars.
• Any 250g of whole bean coffee for every 10 Whole Bean Stars.
• Any 12-pack Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew for every 10 Starbucks VIA® Stars.

Starbucks Card doesn’t have an expiration date but those that doesn’t have any activity for three (3) years –meaning no load, no purchases– will be rendered invalid. Stars, however, expire every March of the next calendar year.

I’m sure you’ve already heard, if not tried, the latest food hybrid that has taken the country by storm recently — the cronut. Just like what its name suggests, the cronut is the marriage of two delectable pastries: the croissant and the donut.

Honestly, I haven’t jumped into the bandwagon yet because I seldom go out and when I do, the establishments selling cronuts are either too far away, have lines that are too long, or doesn’t have enough because they’re already sold out by mid-afternoon.

Lucky for me, starting this August 15th, Krispy Kreme launched their own version of the cronut, joining their Baked Creations line, in the name of Krispy Kroissant.

And I’m really glad that my first cronut experience came from Krispy Kreme because their version is BAKED instead of fried. As you can see in the photo above, Krsipy Kroissant comes in four (4) variants that is all filled with rich, velvety, pastry cream: Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry and Apple Cinnamon.

Can you guess what’s my favorite amongst the four?

If you’ve guessed Apple Cinnamon, then you are right.

Tangy apple + aromatic cinnamon…. sugar & spice… luscious pastry cream… flaky but soft and chewy dough… Now who could resist that? I swear I could be under a spell the way I ate that big piece of Apple Cinnamon Krispy Kroissant. And it would’ve been nice if  I had vanilla ice cream on the side too!

My second favorite is the Chocolate variant. Don’t let that chocolate ring fool you, it’s bigger than it looks … AND  it’s Belgian chocolate ganache. Nobody says no to chocolate…specially Belgian chocolate.

I like the Strawberry too but not so much and I find the Vanilla too sweet for my liking but who knows, they might be just right up your alley.

These are perfect with cup of coffee and of course, best enjoyed in the company of loved ones. My sister and I actually shared the Chocolate and it’s a good thing because I might have eaten three in one sitting…
