STARBUCKS SUMMER 2015 DRINKS

Today is the start of Summer at Starbucks! There are two new Frappuccinos that will surely take your tastebuds to a whole new adventure. Last Saturday, I was able to try these two new Summer beverages together with my family and my cousin, Ate Tess. It was launched at the new Starbucks RCBC in BGC with a really refreshing Summer party and we were even asked to tag along some friends to make it more fun!

The two new Frappuccinos are: Summer Berry Panna Cotta Frappuccino and Dark Mocha Panna Cotta Frappucinno.

Since I am pregnant, I only tried the SUMMER BERRY PANNA COTTA FRAPPUCCINO® BLENDED BEVERAGE (Tall – ₱ 170, Grande ₱ 180, Venti– ₱ 190). It is cream based and layered with delicious panna cotta pudding plus a tart summer berry sauce. Then it is topped with whipped cream and berry drizzle making it the ultimate Summer drink! I looove how tart and fruity it was. The creamy panna cotta went really well with the berries in this drink.

peanutbutter had the DARK MOCHA PANNA COTTA FRAPPUCCINO® BLENDED BEVERAGE (Tall – ₱ 180, Grande ₱ 190, Venti– ₱ 200). I’m thinking this is their Dark Mocha Frappuccino® blended beverage, which I love, only with a layer of panna cotta pudding at the bottom adding creaminess to each bittersweet sip. To finish the beverage to perfection, it is topped with whipped cream and a dusting of dark mocha powder.

Ykaie loved the Summer Berry Panna Cotta Frappuccino as well!

STARBUCKS NEW FOOD ITEMS FOR SUMMER 2015

I’m sure you’re wondering if they have any new treats to partner with the new drinks. Well, here they are:

TRIPLE CHOCOLATE CAKE (₱ 140-slice|₱ 1,350-whole)

This chocolate cake is so rich, dense and moist. It is filled with smooth, velvety milk chocolate mousse and rich crunchy chocolate paste praline.

JALAPEÑO CHEESE TURNOVER (₱ 95) – This is like Jalapeño Poppers, only in pastry form. I love that it has a flaky and buttery crust!

HERB AND CHEESE TOAST (₱65 – slice|₱ 300 – whole) is perfect for when you’re having breakfast. This soft bread  is filled with Italian herbs and aged cheese. You’ll love this with butter!

CHICKEN CHEESE STEAK WRAP (₱ 165)  is tortilla filled with chicken breast fillet enrobed with smoky BBQ sauce and corn slaw.

ITALIAN CHICKEN AND HAM ON FLAT BREAD (₱ 165) Sliced turkey, ham and cream cheese with basil pesto on toasted flat bread. Best served warm.

STARBUCKS SUMMER COFFEE BLENDS

We were able to try one of the featured coffees that day which is AFRICA KITAMU (₱ 495). This balanced, complex blend of East African coffees offers well-rounded flavor and delicate acidity with exotic floral citrus characteristics making it perfect for Iced Coffee!

We made Iced Coffee using French Press. I am so envious because I couldn’t drink it. All I could do was sniff!

If you don’t have a french press and you want to enjoy Iced Coffee at home, you can try this STARBUCKS VIA® ICED COFFEE SWEETENED (₱ 250). It is caramelly-smooth with hints of citrus, lightly sweetened with a touch of cane sugar for a well-balanced, refreshing finish.

White Choco Frappe from J. CO.

Ykaie has been craving for Alcapone and Oreology and that’s what she asked from peanutbutter and I to bring her as pasalubong. So before going home from an event Makati, we dropped by J. Co in U.N. Ave. to buy a box of donuts.

This Summer heat always has me looking for something cold and sweet. Yesterday, I couldn’t help but ogle at these new delicious creations when I saw them from the menu board: White Choco Frappe and White Choco Espresso Frappe.

White Choco Frappe from J. CO.

White Choco Frappe is fused with vanilla, white chocolate sauce, loaded with hefty white chocolate chunks, and served ice-cold. White Choco Espresso Frappe is the same only with an espresso shot on top. This will surely give your day a boost!

peanutbutter tried the  White Choco Espresso Frappe while I had the White Choco Frappe. It was a bit sweet but we loved it, specially because you can really sip those white chocolate chunks through the straw and chew on them as you make your way to the bottom of the cup!

The best ever news I received this morning– Starbucks has two new Frappuccino® Blended Beverages! that inspire a fun filled, energetic and adventurous “Sip ‘N Go” season. As you all know, I’m preggo and I have been doing everything I can to keep away from anything coffee in the last 9 months. Finally, the bun in my oven is done and we’ll be meeting her next week! We are super excited! I’m just as excited that I’ll be able to have coffee again — specially with these new beverages from Starbucks.

Coconut Mocha Frappe and Dazzling Queen from J. CO

Would you believe that it was just last thursday when I was finally able to try J. Co’s Café Avocado Frappe? I’ve been wanting to try it ever since I found out about it which I think was around seven months ago but I was pregnant and I can’t have any coffee at that time.

Last thursday, we went to the mall to buy some baby things for Twinkle and stopped by J. Co for coffee and donuts before going home. I had Café Avocado Frappe — it was weird, in a good sort of way. I couldn’t imagine how they were able to come up with such a unique flavor combination and make it work. Avocado and coffee go so well together!

I have to hand it J. Co. They always come up with unusual coffee flavors to change the game, which by the way, are always a hit such as the Café Avocado, Tiramisu Frappe, and White Chocolate Espresso Frappe.

This June, J.CO did it again with their new Coconut Mocha Frappe, a blend of tender coconut jellies, swirled in a blend of iced coconut, chocolate, and J Coffee. To complete the tropical experience, pair it up with the mouth-watering Dazzling Queen, J.CO’s newest donut filled with a berry-coconut cream and topped with strawberry, chocolate, and dried coconut flakes.

I’m excited to try this because I love coconut. I bet this tropical flavor is gonna be my new favorite!

It has been a busy rainy season. Not a day goes by without a drizzle or a shower in the afternoon which makes the day gloomy. I’ve found a way to inject some sunshine into my day, even if the weather suddenly become gloomy: the third round of new Frappuccino® Blended Beverages! These are going to be available starting on July 28, 2015.

Let me start with the ORANGE HONEYCOMB CRUNCH CREAM FRAPPUCCINO® BLENDED BEVERAGE (Tall – ₱ 165, Grande ₱ 175, Venti– ₱ 185) which totally blew me away! I’ve never imagined orange in a cream-based Frappuccino. It is something I love because orange reminds me of sunshine and it’s energizing. This Frappuccino does the same to me as it is made with citrusy and fragrant orange sauce made with real orange bits then finished with whipped cream, crunchy honeycomb and a swirl of tangy orange drizzle.

While the HONEYCOMB CRUNCH MOCHA FRAPPUCCINO® BLENDED BEVERAGE (Tall – ₱ 165, Grande ₱ 175, Venti– ₱ 185) tastes like a decadent coffee-flavored cake! It is Mocha Frappuccino layered with golden crunchy honeycomb, whipped cream and chocolaty drizzle to create a multi-textured & well-balanced cool beverage treat.

Kati Kati (which is Swahili for “between”) blend displays a great example of the art of blending and roasting in action. STARBUCKS RESERVE® KENYA KARATINA AA (₱595)

This wonderful coffee takes its name from both the town and the wet mill that processed the coffee for Starbucks. It is comprised of coffees representing the Barichu Farmers Cooperative. The farms are located in Nyeri, a region known for its high quality coffee and where the cherries mature slowly, which translates in the cup to produce complex flavors. Traditional fully washed coffees are sun-dried for 2-3 weeks to allow the flavors to intensify producing a bright citrusy acidity with savory umami notes that are complex and lingering. The flavors of the coffee can be enjoyed whether hot or iced.

Twinkle turned four months old yesterday and we celebrated with a mini-Halloween party. Ykaie and my nieces donned their recycled Halloween costumes for the mini party. While sis and I prepared our much-awaited Halloween food each year.

Nutty Dracula Donut is rich with peanut butter on the inside and garnished with dark chocolate and strawberry sauce on the outside. Topping it off is a hint of white chocolate- a little sweetness to balance the sultry taste.

Trapped in a Web Donut is filled with Tiramisu Cream, and capped with a mix of Dark Chocolate and Chocolate Tiramisu.

Between the two, I love the Nutty Dracula. I love peanutbutter, remember?

J.CO Halloween Donuts are now available at all J CO branches until November 2, 2015! It would add a little sweet spookiness on your Halloween table.

I’ve been attending the Starbucks Christmas event for years now but there was something different this year. I felt Christmas in October the moment I entered the door on their RCBC branch in BGC. I smelled Christmas in the air and felt it in every corner of the store. We were even welcomed by Christmas carolers and I felt instantly transported to the Victorean era. I was half expecting for snow to fall anytime soon…

Nothing could be more festive that the Starbucks holiday espresso beverages. They inspire celebration, joy, and instill warmth in each cup.

The Toffee Nut Latte and the Peppermint Mocha are returning favorites. I’m sure you’re already familiar with them. Toffee Nut Latte is made up of steamed milk, espresso and toffee nut syrup, topped off with whipped cream and beloved toffee nut sprinkles. While Peppermint Mocha is a chocolaty coffee beverage highlighted with peppermint notes which brings up memories of candy canes and Christmas festivities. Topped off with whipped cream, mocha drizzle, and red and white candy bits.

What’s new this year is the Christmas Panettone Latte. I love a good Panettone Bread and I love this one that my aunt sends from UK. It is buttery, fragrant, and filled with different kinds of dried fruits. The Christmas Panettone Latte is kind of the same. Its bread and butter flavors are perfectly paired with steamed milk and roasted espresso then topped off with whipped cream and a medley of dried fruits for a textural and delicious twist on a classic holiday tradition.

Along with the red cups are returning favorites food items. These are the food items that we cannot get enough of and those that we just have to have each year.

I am so glad that the Chocolate Toffee Nut Loaf (slice-₱65, whole-₱595) is back because this has been a favorite year after year. I can’t get enough of that moist and decadent chocolate loaf topped with chocolate and toffee.

I’ve grown fond of the Peppermint Brownie (₱75) this year. Beside being moist and chewy, this chocolate brownie is filled with peppermint cheese filling topped with chocolate ganache.

The Gingerbread Cookie (₱55) is super cute this year becaause it’s decorated as a penguin!

The Chicken Fajita Roll (₱120) is still looking like its old festive self and is filled with mouth-watering Mexican
flavored chicken breast fillet.

I’m not a fan of crepe cakes but this year’s Chocolate Crepe Cake (slice-₱130,  whole-₱ 1,150) looks extra delicious! don’t you agree?

Starbucks New Food Items 2015

If there are returning favorites, then there must also be something new, right? What I love about the new food items this year is……..there’s pasta!

There’s Penne Al Formaggio (₱165), Starbucks’ sophisticated version of mac n’ cheese. You won’t be able to resist because this is a childhood favorite. Imagine al dente penne pasta with creamy and sharp cheese sauce made
with cheddar, parmesan and mozzarella. Yum!

And there’s Spinach Lasagna (₱165) made up of layers of al dente lasagna with creamy tomato spinach filling.

I love the Italian Cheese Pocket (₱120)! It’s like pizza because of the pepperoni, sausage, olives, mushroom, bell pepper, tomatoes and cheese filling.

I let sis try the Rocky Road Cookie Stuffed With Oreo (₱65) and she was crazy about it! If you must know, it’s a chewy double chocolate chip cookie with walnuts, marshmallow and stuffed with Oreo…

Twinkle was just as crazy about it…

You know how much I love cheesecake, right? This White Chocolate Truffle Cheesecake (slice-₱150,  whole-₱ 1,595) is a winner! It’s rich, smooth, and velvety white chocolate cheesecake topped with more white chocolate and truffle!

I wasn’t able to try the Dark Belgian Chocolate Cake (slice-₱190,  whole-₱ 1,695) but I’m planning to do so in the next few days. I’m not planning to miss out on the layers of dark Belgian chocolate cake, mousse, meringue and dark Belgian chocolate frosting with gold powder dusting.

This wwould definitely remind you of your big day — Birthday Cake (slice-₱130,  whole-₱ 1,150) with its moist and light vanilla cake and cream cheese frosting and pastel colored sprinkles.

New Packaged Food

STARBUCKS BISCOTTI COLLECTION (₱545) Greet the Christmas season with a new Starbucks packaged food featuring three almond biscotti and three chocolate chunk biscotti. I got the small planner in black. It has an embossed part of the Starbucks Logo in front making it look more elegant. I love the small planner because it’s easier to bring along. It’s small, so it takes less space and I can put it inside my camera bag.

Just like the previous Starbucks planner, it contains ten (10) coupons which you can redeem monthly.

It was such a bold and refreshing move of Starbucks to partner with Moleskin this year. Actually, they did a lot of collaborations and this was just the first. Wait till I tell you about the Starbucks Cards they have for the holidays on my next post!

How was your Valentine’s Day? I hope you got to spend it with your lovey dovey, got a nice bouquet of flowers, opened boxes of chocolates, and went on a romantic evening date.

Me? I’m not a flower person and I don’t really like going out on Valentine’s Day because I don’t like going with the crowd. I’d rather spend it at home with the family.

So when peanutbutter asked yesterday morning if I wanted to go to the Sunday market, I got excited — this is my Valentine’s Day present! Awww, peanutbutter knows me too well. He knew I would love to go shopping fresh produce…early in the morning heehee

At 7am, we were on our way to Makati and while we were, we had a sudden realization that the Sunday market just might be a Saturday market after all. (Halatang hindi pa nagpupunta sa Salcedo Saturday Market). Arriving there and seeing empty tents proved our hunch was right.

I want to go back next Sunday and I’ll bring a big eco bag so I can buy more..LOL!

Which Starbucks Macchiato Team are you? Team Roasted Caramel or Team Chocolate Hazelnut?

As you all know, one of my favorite drinks when I was a barista is the Iced Caramel Macchiato. I like that it sounds sophisticated when you’re ordering it..(ehem). I like that it’s milk in the bottom and then espresso shot on top, making it a two-tone drink. And of course, I like that the caramel drizzle on top doesn’t melt when it’s a cold drink, it just sinks at the bottom and you can suck through your straw injecting a sweet, buttery flavor whenever you take a sip of your coffee.

Just leave it to Starbucks to come up with new macchiato flavors with each passing year, allowing me to taste my favorite beverage in bold new flavors… and..GAhh, this year, they even have it in Frappuccino!

Oh, and another thing, Starbucks has launched two flavors! You can vote for your favorite Starbucks Macchiato beverage at www.starbuckspromotion.ph from February 23 to March 4, 2016. Starbucks Coffee College

Being the coffee lover that I am (and previously a passionate barista),I got very excited when I received an invite for the Starbucks Coffee College.

It sounded a bit like going to a “Starbucks School” but it wasn’t. Starbucks Coffee College in an immersive coffee journey that took me (and fellow bloggers) through the diverse flavors of coffee that are influenced by soil, geographic microclimate, altitude, and production techniques. We all know that Starbucks sources their coffee from different regions like Latin America, Africa and Asia Pacific. Coffees from these different regions produces distinctive aroma, acidity, flavor and body, which is unique and complementary to different savory dishes and sweet treats.

To start our coffee journey was a bit of coffee history from Ms. Ana Mendoza, 2015 Starbucks Philippines Coffee Ambassador 1st Runner Up.

A simple coffee pairing followed using three Starbucks Single Origin Coffee highlighting the particular flavors unique to the coffee’s birthplace. Colombia which has a nutty flavor pairs well with peanuts. Kenya with floral aromas and flavors of berries and citrus and pair well with grapefruit. And Sumatra with its bold, earthy and herbal flavors pairs well with mushroom.

What was my favorite? It was Kenya, of course!

You see, coffee is really very much like wine in the sense that it brings out the flavors in sweet and savory dishes. When paired with the food it complements, the flavors dispersed by each coffee can enhance every bite, elevating the culinary experience with unforgettable taste sensations.

To be able to experience these unforgettable taste sensations, we were treated to a 4-course Neo-Filipino cuisine coffee and food pairing lunch. This lunch was conceptualized by Celine Lichauco, Starbucks Philippines, senior category specialist for food and Matt Sanvictores, Starbucks Philippines, senior learning specialist. It featured Filipino dishes with a twist that was delightfully paired with the different coffees of Starbucks.

For starters, we had a refreshing Grilled Shrimp Salad paired with Starbucks Reserve® Ethiopia Guji Bilida Bukisa Clover Brewed Iced Coffee. The salad was composed of the most tasty grilled fresh water shrimps, mixed greens, edible flowers, micro greens, calamansi gelee, salted egg salsa, and cheery tomatoes tossed in citrus dressing. Of course, it was my first time to pair salad with coffee and I loved it.

Starbucks Reserve® Ethiopia Guji Bilida Bukisa is a light-bodied coffee with distinct lemon and currant flavors that’s why it went perfectly well with the salad with citrus dressing.

It was followed by Seafood and Eggplant Cocido paired with Starbucks Tribute® Blend Pressed Coffee. This spanish dish was composed of an assortment of poached seafood (fish, shrimp, mussels,squid) on a bed of light eggplant relish, cocido broth reduction with corn and garbanzos.

Starbucks Tribute Blend is distinct for its spicy and full-bodied flavor with berry and dark cherry notes. It is best complemented with spices that’s why it enhanced the flavor of the Seafood and Eggplant Cocido.

Starbucks Coffee College

The entrée featured a Filipino classic dish with a twist, Adobo sa Balsamic which was also paired with the Starbucks Tribute® Blend Pressed Coffee. Adobo sa Balsamic wass composed of a trio of chicken, pork and beef adobo that was slow cooked in balsamic vinegar with garlic and served with kabute risotto omelette.

I love everything in this plate!  A bite of the adobo and a sip of Starbucks Tribute Blend just brings so much flavor to my mouth! Same goes with the kabute risotto omelette… I finished everything in this plate and even asked for a second helping of coffee.

Our lunch ended with a very interesting desert: Turon sa Halo-Halo was served together with a scoop of Mantecado ice cream and a a stick of Starbucks VIA Ready Brew Colombia. We were then asked to sprinkle it on top of the Mantecado ice cream.

I sprinkled generously and it gave that nutty, bittersweet flavor to this sweetest ending!

Oh, if only I could lunch like this every single day!

After our sumptuous lunch, Lheo Murillo, Starbucks Philippines 2015 Coffee Ambassador Finalist, introduced the different brewing methods that one can do at home which are the Pour-Over and the classic Coffee Press.

We were given some coffee grounds and materials to brew Guatemala Antigua via Coffee Press.

The educational coffee journey ended with an exceptional latte art demonstration by 2015 Starbucks Philippines Coffee Ambassador Pao Legaspi.

I’ve been waiting all my life for this to happen. And now, I think the Frappuccino gods finally heard my calls… Starting tomorrow, Starbucks is gonna be serving this Roasted Marshmallow S’mores! S’mores is one of my favorite flavors in this world — add it to my frappuccino — I’ll be in heaven.

The Roasted Marshmallow S’mores Frappuccino (Tall–₱180 Grande-₱190 Venti–₱200) has that distinct taste of roasted marshmallows sandwiched with chocolate between graham crackers.

Finally, it’s Summer at Starbucks.

One of the highlights of my day at the event was getting to design this recyclable Starbucks cup. For me, #SummerAtStarbucksPH reminds me of the sunshine, clouds, birds, coconut trees, and the beach. And that’s what I tried to draw on there… heehee. well, the keyword there is tried.

The best part of my day is finding out two new Frappuccino® Blended Beverages that would continue to inspire our sense of summertime adventures.

Ladies and gents, meet the Double Chocolate Green Tea  Frappuccino Blended Beverage (Tall–₱175 Grande-₱185 Venti–₱195), is a Green Tea Frappuccino infused with crunchy Java Chips layered with a smooth chocolate sauce at the top and bottom of the cup. It is then topped with whipped cream and a light dusting of Green Tea powder. Expect the chocolate sauce to be deliciously sticky because it’s the same chocolate sauce in the Roasted Marshmallow S’mores Frappuccino.

Also let me introduce to you the Chocolate Black Tea With Earl Grey Jelly Frappuccino Blended Beverage (Tall–₱180 Grande-₱190 Venti–₱200), a blend of Kenyan Tea leaves and chocolate infused into a smooth and delicious Black Tea Frappuccino. This beverage starts with a layer of refreshing and aromatic Earl Grey Tea Jelly then topped with a smooth Black Tea Frappuccino with chocolate Java Chips and finished with whipped cream and a sprinkle of chocolate Black Tea powder.

New Sweet and Savory Food Items

Along with the new drinks are the new savory and sweet food items you’d be looking forward to try on your next visit..

These Breakfast Pancakes (₱95) are the perfect breakfast pancakes! It’s light and fluffy and you won’t even need maple-flavored syrup to eat it.. that’s how delicious it is!

The Chicken Milk Bun (₱75) is a soft and toasty milk bun filled with mouthwatering smoked sesame chicken fillet topped with sweet cookie crumbs and is best served warm.

One of my favorites is this PURPLE YAM CHEESECAKE with red mung bean and macapuno (₱ 140/slice |₱1,550 for whole)  an indulgent silken smooth, yet light cheesecake swirled with purple yam and red mung bean and macapuno.

Another favorite is this Chicken Parmigiana Wrap (₱165), a tortilla wrap filled with baked chicken fillet, parmesan  and mozzarella cheese, roasted eggplant, and pomodoro sauce. It is sooo good!!!

peanutbutter♥ loved the Suasage and Spinach On Focaccia Bread (₱175) a  sandwich made with crusty and soft bread filled with creamy spinach and sliced Italian sausage. It’s a bit spicy but we loved it!

Starbucks is now serving this GO LITE! CHIPS (₱50). Sweet Maui Onion Cassava Popped Chips that are gluten free, trans-fat free, and only 100 calories per bag. It is best for light snacking or paired with the sandwiches!

All of these new food items and new drinks will be available starting tomorrow June 7, 2016!
